Many thanks to Pino http://lang-8.com/998242 for helping me with a couple of lines.

Also I was once requested to show my process of hacking together a sub, I wouldn’t call it a tutorial since it’d naturally be better to not have to use so many tools. This is me subbing the first minute of the video, 3 hours sped up over 1000% to 15 mins for Youtube (more info e.g. music, tools, in the video description). Enable annotations for notes.

Ah thank you for such kind words, I appreciate it! Yeah Capture2Text for the Kanji is a real life-saver.

Well I primarily used a transcript here, there’s a site that posts the hard of hearing captions for some shows, it’s a major help to me (praying it never dies):

http://o.x0.com/m/

It doesn’t cover on-screen subtitles though (since hard of hearing people can then refer to those) so that’s why I capture or copy down on-screen stuff, I can recognize Hiragana but use Capture2Text for Kanji beyond extremely common stuff like hito (person), boku etc.

I did do some videos in the past by listening though since I had no transcript (e.g. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6WHN1JMJ6Y:7j8f01z5]Gaki Ding Dong Ditch[/url:7j8f01z5]). I actually have tinnitus to an extent, a ringing sound in the ears, I guess it makes me more sensitive to sound. I could hear the high-pitched electrical frequency of someone’s old and worn PC parts squealing out which was annoying, they couldn’t hear it |( However that doesn’t really make my comprehension any better so it’s not any easier to listen for the Japanese words, especially as so many words sound similar or people pronounce things differently. I have a few videos without transcripts that are not really going anywhere because it takes too long, even with a transcript!

This was cute :D
